Jack Reacher (2012) - Film Review

So is has Tom Cruise turned another good page in Jack Reacher? Let's find out.

    Director: Christopher McQuarrie
Starring: Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Jai Courtney, Werner Herzog
Written by: Christopher McQuarrie
Music by: Joe Kraemer

After 2011's most successful Mission:Impossible film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and this year's Oblivion which has had a very well recieved teaser trailer; Tom Cruise's career can go anywhere but downhill, so no he's taking on a character from a New York Times' Best Seller.   So is this another good chapter in Tom Cruise's career?

After five random people are shot, the police trace the evidence back to military sniper, James Barr (Joseph Sikora). Barr asks for Jack Reacher (Cruise), personally; but instead of investigating and helping him, Reacher's intentions are against the suspect. But as him and Counselor, Helen Rodin (Pike) dig deeper into this killing; it's not as straight forward as it seems.

It took me multiple viewings to realize who the killer actually was, but it wasn't the film's fault it was me trying to think too far ahead as the film explains it pretty well.   The film has a very good script and it's very obvious that the director and writer are the same person, the dialogue won't win any awards but the characters do give away information the way people in their position would.

Although I haven't read any of the books I can tell that Tom Cruise's performance as Jack Reacher is on point as no-one has complained about it yet, Rosamund Pike is good here and delivers what could've been a winy, horny background, pretty girl someone with some depth and wants to get her job done and be looked at more than just a pretty face.

Richard Jenkins is believable here as Pike's father, David Oyelowo continues his trend started from 2011 Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes of dying. Jai Courtney is quite one note as one of the bad guys and so is the main villian, Werner Herzog.

If in a drama college, they're looking on how to direct action; Jack Reacher should be shown because Christopher McQuarrie directs action loudly and clearly as a wannabe director, it's inspiring and as someone who wants to be entertained for two hours with a mystery, action, thriller; it's perfect.

The cinematography is almost as good as Skyfall because while Skyfall had a lot of locations to work with, Jack Reacher is in one city and the lighting in some scenes is flawless.       All of the action sequences are completely silent with no music and this gives the audience some on-the-edge-of-your-seat action that had me smiling the entire time.

Jack Reacher is one of the smartest and most daring films of the year. Although at one time, I was hoping to move on to the next scene and I was confused because I thought the film was contradicting what I saw, I was just thinking too far ahead.   This is another success for Tom Cruise and the start of an amazing writing, directing and action, mystery film career for Christopher McQuarrie.
                                   I Give Jack Reacher 9/10
